Remember when Peter asked Egon and Ray what to do next when they encountered the Librarian Ghost?

Pete tries talking to the ghost, and she shushes him.

He retreats and says "the usual stuff isn't working".

Ray, in the moment, gets excited and says he has a plan.

And they follow Ray, sneaking up on her...

...and then...

"GET HER!!"

They get the shit scared out of themselves when the ghost flips out on them, and end up running away.

They criticize Ray. "So that was your big plan.  'Get her!'.  It was scientific."

That's what happened in Torchwood 3x04.

While promoting Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in June 2009, Fox was asked how she would stop Megatron from demolishing the world, Fox replied, "I'd make a deal with him and instead of the entire planet, can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?"
HAHA.

Welp... finally finished off Transformers: Animated.

What a fantastic series.

It's funny... back when this show was just rumors and vague details, I was ready to throw up at some of the things I'd heard.

Stuff about it being much more kid-oriented, and not every episode dealing with Autobot vs. Decepticon stories -- Autobots vs. human-based threats?  BORING.

And those robot designs!  So simplistic.  The vehicles weren't even close to realistic, instead opting for some sort of futuristic crap (the show being set in the future).

Instead, it turned out a) to be one of the most G1-respectful shows since Beast Wars with more cameos and references than you can shake a stick at, and b) some damned fine storytelling with genuinely funny moments.

This little show wiped the floor with nearly everything that came before it (and is on par with G1, Beast Wars, and perhaps Beast Machines (I kinda liked that)).

And they did it without CGI, overuse of "glamor shots" of transformations, or obsession with near-constant combat.

(And hey, the toys were both the most show-accurate ever, and well made to boot. ;))

It's a damned shame it didn't hit a fourth season or more.  Much like Enterprise, it hit an amazing stride in it's final season before finally getting the plug yanked.

Sigh.

Just picked up the book "The Cuckoo's Egg" from the free book bin at the thrift store.  (I'm going to stop calling it the consignment shop, since it's not a consignment shop.)

I remember this book, with this editions cover, from the town library years ago.  I remember seeing it all the time... vivid memory.

Anyway, I never looked at it.

And I didn't even see it in the bin my first time around.

There was this old man doing gardening around the front of the shop -- I've never seen him before.  As I left the building, I poked around the bin but nothing caught my eye.  As I turn around to leave, I nearly bumped into him.  I apologize, and he says "Nothing good in the box, eh?  Surely there must be something!  Cuckoo's Egg, perhaps?"

The name doesn't ring a bell, at that moment, but just to humor him I poke back into the bin.  I saw the book, recognized it, but didn't pick it up.

Then I went for a walk.  And on the way back I looked again.  This time I picked it up and looked inside.

It looked exactly like the sort of book I might be interested in.

And besides, when a mysterious stranger recommends a specific book, you fucking take the book.

I'm half tempted to start reading it, but I'm already in the middle of Diamond Age.  I refuse to start reading another book while reading another -- I do that all the time, and I'm leaving a wake of half-read books behind me that I never get back to.

I'm not exactly crazy about Temple, so, for me at least, I hope I don't look back on the Indy franchise and say, "Well, at least two out of the five were great.".

Did that show "Parks & Recreation" ever get any better?

Watching the pilot on Hulu, and so far it's just a reskinned "The Office".

Except less funny*, if that's possible.  I haven't even smirked.

(* UK version excluded, of course.)

I'm spending far too much time watching these video movie reviews from Spill.com.

It's got to be tough making a website where there's a dozen other sites with similar ambitions fighting to be heard.  Spill goes the extra mile by creating video reviews in cartoon format.  And it's VERY funny stuff. (There's a ton of them, too.)

Here.  To start you off, here's the one I first saw. (Embed code is broken, apparently.)

[via Movie Moron]

MM: How was your experience with Revenge of the Fallen different to the first Transformers?

RO: The first one was a classical experience. Alex and I went off for a few months and wrote two drafts. Then we developed it with Michael Bay in mind. And once we had something we went out and pitched it to him and got him on the movie. With the second one it was much more of a mad dash. There was a writers strike right in the middle of it and we were developing it with Michael, so we had two weeks to do the story before the strike hit. We gave him a 20 page outline and then he went off to develop it and prepare the action based on that outline. And as soon as the strike ended we had three months between the day it ended and the principal day of photography, so we had to literally write pages and hand them over every day. Our first draft. As he was preparing them and giving us notes and feedback with Ehren Kruger who wrote the movie with us. So they were two very different experiences.
